Western Australia's Boddington Project Officially Commences Operations
Boddington's employment opportunities are set to increase substantially with the development of the $US3 billion Newmont Boddington Gold Mine.
- At full capacity, Boddington Gold Mine will be Australia's largest gold producer.
- Boddington has an estimated mine life of more than 24 years.
- Newmont began the re-construction of Boddington Gold in February 2006, and announced the official start-up of its 100% owned project on 20 November, 2009.
Already in operation, Boddington Gold Mine is set to become Australia's largest open cut gold mine (surpassing even the famous Superpit in Kalgoorlie!) and will create many employment opportunities, both in and around the mine.
"For a project of its size and complexity, Boddington represents a signature achievement not just for Newmont, but for our industry as a whole," said Richard O'Brien, President and Chief Executive Officer. "I am especially proud of how our employees from across the globe contributed to the successful delivery of this world-class project. As Newmont continues its safety journey, it is especially pleasing to see this project being an industry leader in safety performance."
